Athletes of the Week - 09/02/2003
Dave Dawson (Camp Hill, PA/Bishop McDevitt) of the football team rushed for
a career-high 125 yards on 14 carries in UB's 24-10 loss at Rutgers. Dawson,
a sophomore, broke a 76-yard touchdown run in the third quarter against the
Scarlet Knights, the longest of his career and Buffalo's Division I-A
history. The 125 yards bettered his previous high of 103 yards last season
at Marshall. As a team, the Bulls rushed for 232 yards, the most since a
239-yard effort at Marshall in 2002.
Devon Russell (Averill Park, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) of the women's
soccer team scored two goals in two games, including the game winner in UB's
1-0 victory over Creighton at the Minnesota Invitational. For her efforts,
Russell, a senior defender/midfielder, also earned Mid-American Conference
Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors. Her two goals this season are
already one shy of her tying career high of three set in the 2000 season as
a freshman.
