Athletes of the Week - 08/13/01Labe Black (Ventnor, NJ/Absegami) of the wrestling team was honored by Amateur Wrestling News on its AWN All-Freshman team as the No. 1-ranked grappler at 157 pounds. Black, the all-time win leader in New Jersey prep history, finished his freshman season with a 17-12 record and finished third at the Mid-American Conference championships at 157 pounds. He led all UB wrestlers with seven pins in his first season and posted 10 dual meet victories. Black also represented the United States on the National Wrestling Coaches Association's All- American tour in Bulgara and France in June. Marce Ross (Barrie, ONT/St. Peter's) of the softball team is representing her province of Ontario at the 2001 Canada Summer Games in London, Ontario. The softball competition of the games is schedule for August 13-18. A rising sophomore, Ross, the Bulls' second baseman, tied for the team lead last season with 26 runs scored and four stolen bases. She topped the team by drawing 21 walks. |
