Athletes of the Week - 05/12/2008
Rick Oliveri (Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) of the baseball team hit .429 (3-for-7) in UB's three-game series at Bowling Green. Oliveri, the senior catcher, went 2-for-4 in Friday's opener with a two-RBI single. Oliveri also had a base hit and drove in a run in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. For the season, he's hitting .277 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
The Varsity Eight boat was one of four UB boats to reach the Grand Finals of the Dad Vail Regatta helping the Bulls win the points title. The boat, which included coxswain Sher Briggs (St. Catharines, Ontario, West Park) and rowers Tara Rudkoski (Merrick, NY/Calhoun), Bridget Yannes (Edgewater Park, NJ/Holy Cross), Alana Sharpe (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), Brittany Aiello (Lancaster, NY/Clarence), Melina DiCosimo (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul), Cathleen Streicher (West Seneca, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Lauren Sexton (Niagara Falls, Ontario/St. Paul) and Kelsey Tretter (Rochester, NY/Brighton), finished in fourth place in the Grand Final after winning their semifinal race over San Diego. UB's JV Heavyweight Eight, Lightweight Eight and Novice Four entries also reached the Grand Finals.
