Athletes of the Week - 05/10/2004
Brian Zelasko (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard
Park) of the baseball team hit .368 (7-of-19) over
five games, knocking in a pair of runs and scoring two. The senior center fielder rapped a game-winning double
to plate the tie-breaking run in UB's 3-2 win over Canisius in game one of a doubleheader. Zelasko had
three multi-hit games in the span and raised his season batting average by 28 points.
Stacey Evans (Collinsville, IL/Triad)
of the softball team pitched a no-hitter in the Bulls' season
finale against Toledo, winning 1-0. Evans went 2-1 on the week with both her victories coming via the shutout.
Evans tied her career high with 12 strikeouts in the no-hit effort. She finished the season 13-11 with a 1.38 earned
run average and struck out 178 batters in 29 appearances.
