ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Athletes of the Week - 05/06/2002

Photo of Mark McMahon

Mark McMahon (West Seneca, NY/Timon/St. Jude) of the baseball team threw a three-hit complete game to lead the Bulls to a 6-2 win over Akron in the opening game of UB's four-game series against the Zips. UB took three of four games over the weekend. McMahon struck out seven in seven innings of work, and both runs he allowed were unearned. He is 3-1 this season and leads all starting pitchers with a 5.18 ERA.

Photo of Breanne Nasti Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) of the softball team went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple in the Bulls' season finale against Miami on Sunday to end the year with a UB single-season record .451 batting average (51-for-113). That mark also currently stands as the Mid-American Conference single-season record, breaking Toledo's Leigh Ross' 1991 record of .447, and Nasti's current .406 career record, in two seasons, also ranks first on the MAC career list. For the week, she hit .579 (11-for-19) with one double, two triples, three RBIs, five runs scored and an .842 slugging percentage in six games.
