ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

George Fetchko (Warren, OH/Howland) of the men's track and field team won the shot put competition at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational as the UB men took home seven first-place finishes. Fetchko's throw of 54-10 (16.71m) was his season-best mark and established a new record for the Robert J. Kane Sports Complex. Fetchko also finished third in the discus throw at 162-10 (49.63m), improving his season-best by nine feet.

Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) of the softball team hit .563 (9-for-16) with two home runs, including a grand slam and 10 RBIs as the Bulls went 5-1 for the week. In UB's 13-5 win over Syracuse in the first game of the sweep over the Orange, Russell belted a two-run homer and later had a grand slam, finishing with seven RBIs. She also added four stolen bases. A senior outfielder, Russell concluded her 2008 season as the team batting leader at .317 and drove in a team-high 25 runs.
