Athletes of the Week - 05/02/2005
Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St.
Francis) of the men's tennis team earned a singles and doubles win
to lead the Bulls into the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the second consecutive
year. Zieziula downed IPFW's Landry Nzudie, 6-0, 6-2, at first singles and combined with
Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN
21) to defeat Nzudie and Nabil Mourad Filho at first doubles, 8-2. Zieziula ends his career
as UB's winningest singles player in Division I history with 69 victories.
Celestine Coney (Lyons,
NY/Lyons) of the women's track and field team set an individual record
and was part of a relay record at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays. Coney lowered her own record in the
400-meter hurdles to 1:00.63 to finish second overall and qualified for the NCAA East Regional meet. She also ran
the anchor leg of the record-setting 4x400-meter relay squad (3:44.77).
