Athletes of the Week - 05/01/2006
Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) of the baseball team tied the school record with five runs against Niagara in a 27-12 UB win. He also extended his hitting streak to eight games, leading the Bulls with a .444 (8-for-18) average from the leadoff slot. The freshman also scored 10 runs and had two doubles during the week. Flynn raised his batting average to .253 after being inserted into the starting lineup.
Miglena Nenova (Rousse, Bulgaria/Eurointellect) of the women's tennis team earned All-MAC First Team and all-tournament honors as the Bulls reached the final match of the MAC Championships. Nenova won her lone singles match to be completed over the weekend with a thrilling three-set win over Miami's Leda Pesatova, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2. Nenova's win was the fourth and clinching point of UB's semifinal win over the RedHawks and propelled UB into the championship match against Western Michigan. She finished the season 18-8 in singles play and was a perfect 8-0 in the number two position.
