ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Keith Gentes (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) of the men's track and field team set a new school record and personal best mark in his victory in the hammer throw at the UB Chancellor's Cup meet. Gentes registered a throw of 190-7 (58.10m) to better the old mark of 186-3 (56.78m) set by Rashidi Greene in 1999. The throw also bettered his NCAA Regional qualifying mark which he had achieved in his last two meets.

Laura Olson (Lyons, NY/Lyons) of the women's track and field team established a new pole vault record at the UB Chancellor's Cup meet. Olson won the event with a vault of 13-0.25 (3.97m), breaking her previous record by more than six inches. The performance was also an NCAA Regional qualifying height and broke the existing UB Stadium record of 12-5.50 (3.80m) set by Bianca Maran of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo at the 1998 NCAA Championships.
