Athletes of the Week - 04/17/2006
Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) of the men's tennis team went undefeated in singles play with a 3-0 record, moving into second place on UB's all-time singles victory list with 65. He clinched UB's 5-2 win over IPFW with a straight-set win over Landry Nzudie. He also rallied to win the final two sets of his match against Brian Livingston of Northern Illinois and scored a super-tiebreaker win over Niagara's Walter Garcia.
Fatimah Hill (Waterport, NY/Lyndonville) of the women's track and field team set the school record in winning the long jump at the Bucknell Bison Open. Hill, a freshman, cleared a distance of 19-6.25 (5.95m), breaking the 2002 mark set by April Pabilonia (18-9.25, 5.72m), missing the NCAA East Regional qualifying mark by two centimeters. Hill’s leap was nearly four feet better than her previous season-best mark. She was also part of UB’s second-place 4x100-meter relay squad at the meet.
