Athletes of the Week - 04/11/2005
Tony Kurtz (Newfane,
NY/Newfane) of the baseball team picked up a win and a save in UB's
five games during the week. Kurtz, a freshman right-hander, pitched 5.1 innings in his two appearances
without allowing a hit. He earned the win over Canisius with a pair of strikeouts. At Bowling Green, he earned his
first career save with a four-strikeout performance in the final 2.1 innings against the leading offense in the MAC.
Chandra Hazey (Riverview,
MI/Riverview) of the women's rowing team powered UB crews to a pair
of victories in their home meet against Bucknell and Colgate. Hazey moved into the lineup for the Varsity 8
crew after the Bulls were short a rower, handling the stroke seat and helping the Bulls to a 6:09.21 clocking. She
then took her regular spot in the bow of the Second Varsity 8 shell, as UB finished nine seconds ahead of Colgate.
