Athletes of the Week - 04/09/2007
Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) of the baseball team hit .533 (8-of-15) in four games, including a 4-of-5 outburst in UB's 9-3 victory at Toledo. Ciesla, a sophomore designated hitter, smacked two home runs and added two doubles for a 1.067 slugging percentage and knocked in six runs. For the season, he leads the Bulls with two home runs and 16 RBIs.
Denise Harijanto (Jakarta, Indonesia) of the women's tennis team helped the Bulls to a 7-0 victory over Mid-American Conference rival Akron on Friday and allowed just two games against her. Harijanto, a freshman playing second singles, defeated Akron's Jenna Larson, 6-2, 6-0, for her 18th win of the year. She also paired with Andreea Novaecanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) for an 8-0 win at first doubles for her 20th doubles triumph of the year.
