Athletes of the Week - 04/07/2003
 Phil Vanhorne (Scarborough, Ontario/Mother Theresa)
of the baseball team had a career day in
UB's doubleheader split against LeMoyne. The sophomore shortstop went 6-for-9 with four RBIs, three runs
scored and a stolen base in the two games, batting from the leadoff position. He tops UB in seven offensive
categories, including a .346 batting average and 27 hits, and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases and runs scored.
Wendy Rose (Eden,
NY/Eden) of the women's tennis team won the number-six singles match in UB's
4-3 loss to MAC rival Akron. Rose won the grueling two-set match over Akron's Meredith Carey, taking the
first set, 7-5. She closed out the match by winning a 7-3 tiebreaker to take the set, 7-6, and record the first
MAC victory of her career.
