Jeffrey Hains (Mexico, NY/Mexico) of the baseball team picked up the win in UB's 1-0 shutout of Central Michigan in the first game of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader. Hains, a sophomore right-hander, scattered five hits in 8.2 innings of work, before turning the ball over to Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) for the save. Hains also struck out three in the effort. For the season, he is 2-2 with a team-leading 2.15 earned run average while working a team-high 37.2 innings.
Fatimah Hill (Waterport, NY/Lyndonville) of the women's track and field team finished second in the long jump at the Raleigh Relays, breaking her own school record. Hill turned in a jump of 19-8.25 (6.00m) to finish second in a field of over 60 entrants. The mark broke her own outdoor record, set in 2006, by two inches and qualified the junior for the NCAA East Regional Championships in May.
