ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Joe Loiacono (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia) of the men's track and field team won the discus throw at the Wake Forest Relays in Winston-Salem, NC with a toss of 150-0 (45.72m). He also placed third in the shot put competition with a personal-best toss of 52-4.25 (15.96m), bettering his school-record mark of 52-2.5 (15.91m) set in 2000. Teammate Byron McKinney (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) set the new school mark of 53-3.25 (16.24m) to place second in the event.

Sarah Fletcher (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway-Crystal Beach) of the women's track and field team won two events in her return to competition after sitting out the 2001 outdoor and 2002 indoor seasons due to an injury. A three-time Mid-American Conference champion, Fletcher was at top form at the Wake Forest Relays, winning the hammer throw at 170-9 (52.04m) and the discus at 142-2 (43.3m).
