Athletes of the Week - 03/21/2005
Dan Quinn (Hamburg,
NY/Frontier) of the baseball team batted .448 (13-for-29) with four home
runs, nine runs scored and 10 RBIs in UB's eight games over the spring break. Quinn hit the go-ahead home run in
the ninth inning to help the Bulls beat Towson, 12-9, on Saturday and he also posted a go-ahead homer in
the seventh inning during his two-homer performance against UMBC on Tuesday to help Buffalo to a 7-6 win.
Vanessa Roelofsen (Alma, Ontario/Norwell District)
of the women's track and field team shattered
the school record with her winning javelin toss to lead the Bulls to a season-opening team victory at the
Seahawk Invitational. A freshman in her first collegiate meet, Roelofsen won the event with a personal-best throw of
161-9 (49.30m), breaking the old mark set by Meagan Rogers in 2003 by 37 feet. She also qualified for
May's NCAA East Regional meet.
