Athletes of the Week - 03/20/2006

Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) of the wrestling team finished in the top 12 for the second time in his career as he went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City. Wrestling at 197 pounds, he reached the quarterfinal round for the first time of his career. He completed his UB career as the school's all-time leader in victories and second all-time in the Mid-American Conference with 137 wins.

 

Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) of the women's softball team went 11 for 28 (.393) with 12 runs batted in, including a pair of home runs, in UB's 10 game stretch in Florida. Barstad, a junior also posted a 2.38 earned run average and picked up three wins on the mound while fanning 16. For the season, she leads the Bulls with 21 RBIs and a .299 batting average.
