Athletes of the Week - 03/13/2006
Calvin Cage (Capitol Heights, MD/Bladensburg) of the men's basketball team became UB's single-season scoring leader as he finished the 2005-06 campaign with 592 points. In two games at the First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament, Cage averaged 22.5 points, including a 30-point effort in the first round victory over Ball State. The guard hit five three-pointers in the contest and it was the second time this season he scored 30 points. He finished his career with 1,314, eighth on UB's all-time scoring list.
Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Oswego Free Academy) of the women's softball team hit .261 and added three stolen bases in the seven-game Adidas Tournament. The junior centerfielder and leadoff hitter also scored four runs in the tournament. For the season, she is hitting .250 (12-for-48) with four runs batted in and leads the Bulls with eight runs scored. Russell is tied for the team lead in stolen bases (five) and doubles (four).
