Athletes of the Week - 03/12/2007
Nick Walczak (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) of the baseball team went 4-for-7 (.571) in UB's doubleheader at Temple. Walczak, UB's first baseman, slapped three doubles among his four hits and added a run batted in on a sacrifice fly for the Bulls against the Owls. For the season, Walczak is second on the team with a .290 batting average and leads the Bulls with five doubles.
Sarah Vance (Lockport, NY/Lockport) of the women's indoor track and field team became the second UB athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships as she placed 15th in the women's shot put. Vance turned in a best throw of 49-3 (15.01m) in her three attempts, but was unable to reach the championship final of the event. Vance follows former pole vaulter Laura Olson as the only UB athletes to compete in the Indoor National Championships.
