Athletes of the Week - 03/06/2006

Harold Sherrell (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) of the wrestling team won the Mid-American Conference heavyweight title and earned a trip to the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City. Sherrell pinned Kent State's Jermail Porter at the 4:23 mark of the match to win the weight class title and help the Bulls to a third-place overall finish, their highest-ever at the MAC Championships. Giving up 60 pounds to his Kent State opponent, Sherrell scored the pin to record his 35th victory of the season.

 

Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) of the women's basketball team averaged 17.5 points in UB's two games, including a team-high 21 in the regular season finale against Kent State. Turner was also honored by the Mid-American Conference with a spot on the league's third team. She finished the 2005-06 season as the Bulls' leading scorer (14.3 ppg) and rebounder (8.1 rpg) and posted nine double-doubles in points and rebounds.
