Athletes of the Week - 02/26/2007
Rayshon Higgins (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) of the men's indoor track and field team claimed his second indoor championship and third overall MAC title of his career with a victory in the triple jump at the league championships. He cleared 49-9 (15.16m) on his last attempt to overtake second-place finisher Cadeau Kelley of Akron to successfully defend his indoor triple jump title from last season. It’s his third triple jump title in a row with the outdoor crown now sandwiched in-between the two indoor championships.
Patrice Coney (Lyons, NY/Lyons) of the women's indoor track and field team won the women’s pentathlon at the MAC Championships, breaking her school record with a total 3,677 points. Although Coney did not win any of the individual events, her point total in her overall finishes was good enough to give her the title. Coney turned in a second-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:20.02 and added a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles portion of the event in 8.99 seconds.
