Athletes of the Week - 01/27/2003
Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) of the men's track and field team scored a school-record 3,933 points in the pentathlon at the Cornell Five-Way to shatter his previous mark by nearly 350 points. He also qualified for the USATF Indoor National Championships. His score is the top mark in the Mid-American Conference this season and ranks in the top five nationally. The mark is also the seventh-highest in league history.
Biaunca McFarland (Binghamton,
NY/Binghamton) of the women's track and field team broke
her own record to win the triple jump with a leap of 41-7 (12.67m) at the Cornell Five-Way. McFarland's
winning leap also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships. She also anchored the winning 4x400
relay team, placed second in the 200-meter dash in 25.56 and tied for second in the 60-meter dash in 7.89 seconds.
