Athletes of the Week - 01/21/2008
Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) of the wrestling team won the 184-pound title at the New York State Collegiate Championships to help the Bulls to a second-place overall finish behind Army. Moran scored a sudden-victory win with a 3-1 decision over top-seeded Nate Holley of Cornell in the championship bout. In the semifinals, he defeated third-seeded Justin Kerber of Cornell, 6-3. Moran is currently 27-6 in his bouts this season.
Patrice Coney (Lyons, NY/Lyons) of the women's track and field team won the 60-meter hurdles at the Cornell Upstate Challenge in 8.84 seconds. The time qualified Coney for March's ECAC Championships. The Bulls placed third among seven teams with 112 points in the meet. The record holder in the women's indoor pentathlon, Coney just missed setting the hurdles record by five-hundredths of a second.
