Athletes of the Week - 01/09/2006
Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston,
NY/Lewiston-Porter) of the wrestling team won his 25th consecutive
match of the season by scoring a pin over Northern Illinois' Dave Herrera in the MAC opener for both squads.
The 197-pounder's victory broke John Stutzman's 24-match winning streak set in 1996-97. Already UB's
career victory leader, Cerminara now holds a 123-30 record.
Rachelle Matthys (St. Clair, MI/St.
Clair) of the women's basketball team scored a game-high 16
points in UB's 78-75 victory over Miami (OH). She was 6-of-12 from the floor, including four three-pointers and
also pulled down five rebounds in 39 minutes of action, her second start of the season. The freshman guard
is averaging 7.8 points per game, tied for third on the team, and leads the Bulls in three-point shooting
percentage at .472 (17-of-36).
