ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Athletes of the Week - 01/06/2003

Photo of Gary Cooper Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) of the wrestling team scored a perfect 4-0 record at the Buckeye Duals in Columbus, OH. Cooper, a senior, improved to 19-4 overall with a 6-0 dual meet mark for the season and registered his 11th career dual-meet fall with a pin against his Eastern Illinois opponent. With his 98th win of his career, Cooper is nearing UB's all-time victory record of 102 set by Josh States. Cooper also posted a championship title earlier in the week at the Wilkes Open in the 174-pound weight class.

Photo of Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe (Nelson, New Zealand/Hawaii) of the women's basketball team averaged 18.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.0 steals in three games last week, including her first double-double of the season with a game-high 22 points and a career-high 10 assists at Maine. She also led the Bulls with 15 points against No. 25 Colorado and has surpassed the 600-point plateau for career scoring. The senior leads the team with 15.6 points per game and has nailed 90 percent (18-of-20) of her free throw attempts.
