Student-Athlete Tutorial Program
Successful Students use Tutoring
"To enhance and support academic progress and graduation among Student Athletes
through academic advisement, individualized tutorial assistance and consultation
for learning difficulties." Athlete Academic Services provides opportunities for
all students to acquire the proper study and learning skills and course-specific
information. The intent of the tutorial program is to supplement and supports all
of the sound education practices that are imperative for academic success for all
students.
Types of Tutoring
- Individual - tutoring that takes place on a one on one basis.
- Drop-in - select times when the student athlete can stop in and see
tutor.
- Group - getting together with other student athletes in the same
classes for a group session facilitates by OAAS tutor.
- Study table - student athletes who are assigned mandatory study table
hours will be provided with a tutor during these hours upon request.
Learning Strategist Program
This program is designed for student-athletes to develop a mentoring relationship
(usually with a graduate student) to help manage time, including athletics and
academics. All first year and transfer students are assigned a learning strategist.

Learning Assessment
If you are having specific difficulties with note taking, concentrating, test
taking, study etc., alert your team advisor, and a meeting will be scheduled with
a learning specialist to document and further assess the learning needs of the
student athlete. The learning specialist will also help in making referrals to a
local psychologist as well as provide information about testing and accommodations
provided by the University.
