How Do I Become a Tutor?

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of subject area Minimum GPA of 3.3 in subject area Minimum GPA of 3.0 overall

In addition, a tutor:

Provides individualized or group sessions in areas of expertise Attends training workshops Submits documentation to the Tutor Coordinator Consistently check email for tutor assignments Contacts students as soon as he/she receives a tutoring assignment Completes time sheets and progress reports Attends supervision and consultation sessions Attends an end of the year exit interview

Benefits of being a tutor:

Tutors gain professional experience and have the opportunity for professional growth and development. Tutors are paid for their services. Tutors have the convenience of setting their own hours at times suitable to their schedule. Tutors may be provided with a reference.

Application Process:

The following must be on file for an application to be completed and considered.

A tutor application located in the Office of Athlete Academic and Student Services in 169 Alumni Arena A letter of recommendation from a UB staff or faculty person. A UB official transcript or DARS report documenting all relevant coursework. An interview may be granted if you meet the criteria listed above.
