Successful Students use Tutoring

How Do I Become a Tutor?

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of subject area
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 in subject area
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 overall
In addition, a tutor:
  • Provides individualized or group sessions in areas of expertise
  • Attends training workshops
  • Submits documentation to the Tutor Coordinator
  • Consistently check email for tutor assignments
  • Contacts students as soon as he/she receives a tutoring assignment
  • Completes time sheets and progress reports
  • Attends supervision and consultation sessions
  • Attends an end of the year exit interview
Benefits of being a tutor:
  • Tutors gain professional experience and have the opportunity for professional growth and development.
  • Tutors are paid for their services.
  • Tutors have the convenience of setting their own hours at times suitable to their schedule.
  • Tutors may be provided with a reference.
Application Process:
The following must be on file for an application to be completed and considered.
  • A tutor application located in the Office of Athlete Academic and Student Services in 169 Alumni Arena
  • A letter of recommendation from a UB staff or faculty person.
  • A UB official transcript or DARS report documenting all relevant coursework.
  • An interview may be granted if you meet the criteria listed above.
