Larry Hutchinson Linebacker - Football
1. The team has won two games in a row for the first time since 2001 and have already tied the most wins since returning to division 1, describe how it feels to have things headed in the right direction?
It feels great, coming off of a 2-10 season last year, to come out this year and win two in a row, it feels great. We just have to keep working hard and more success will come.
2. The past two weeks there have been fans waiting for the team buses when they arrive at the stadium in game day. Can you feel a buzz beginning to surround this team?
It feels good, coming from the hotel to the stadium and seeing those people waiting for us. Everybody on the team feels good knowing that there are people out there that want us to win and feeling good about us winning and playing hard. It feels wonderful.
3. Now the team has been able to experience some success, what do you have to do to sustain this momentum and continue to be successful?
Keep the effort and the focus; we have to continue to stick to the task at hand. We can’t forget that we still have a lot to do this season to win a championship. We have to keep our focus, stay strong and good things will come.
4. What is your favorite thing about playing linebacker?
I’d say making big hits. That’s what linebackers are supposed to do, make big hits and make big plays. That’s the best thing, making big plays.
5. How did you end up at UB from Seattle, WA?
After high school I went to a junior college in California, Compton Community College. I had a good two seasons there and then I met coach Turner Gill and after meeting him I decided to come to New York and play at Buffalo.
6. If you could play any other sport at UB, what would it be and why?
Baseball. I love baseball, I played baseball as a little kid and I just love baseball, that my second sport.
7. Do you have a pre-game routine, and if so, what is it?
I just get ready for the game. I pray with a couple of the players on the team and just get ready, get ready to go to work.
8. What has been your favorite moment so far as a student-athlete at UB?
Winning. Winning is the key.
9. What are your goals for the rest of the season, both for the team and for you individually?
For the team is just to keep winning, to win the rest of our games. For me it’s just to keep getting better everyday on the field. Give even more effort, play even harder and make more big plays.
10. What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to talk to my family back home. I’m so far from home having come Seattle, Washington. So I like to talk to my family back home on the weekends and see how they are doing. Other than that I just stay at home with my roommates, watching tv and playing video games.
