  TEN QUESTIONS WITH...

Jeff Niedermier
Offensive Lineman - Football

Photo of Jeff Niedermier1. How is spring practice going so far?

It’s going really well. The offense is moving the ball and we are definitely getting things together, fixing some things. We are working on the one position we lost last year (on the offensive line), that being our center. Everything is going well.

2. What is the difference in what you are trying to accomplish between spring practice and fall camp?

For the spring, a lot of guys are trying to earn a starting spot. That is a big thing, to earn a starting spot going into camp in the fall, not that guys aren’t trying to win starting spots in the fall too. We are also just working on things, getting better. Especially freshman getting better and running the offense a little bit better than they did in the fall. That’s probably the main goal for spring practices.

3. What happens with the football team, in terms of workouts, between the end of season and now?

We broke right after Thanksgiving and then came back a week later and went to work in the weight room for a couple of weeks. Then the first week we got back after Christmas break we were working out again for eight weeks straight, lifting four days a week and running twice a week.

4. How do you see your role on the team as a leader now that you are headed into your senior year?

We lost our position leader from last year (Jamey Richard) so I have tried to step up and assume that role on the offensive line and also on the team, trying to show some more leadership.

5. After the success of last season, do you notice any extra enthusiasm in the guys this spring?

Yeah, I think everybody is excited. You know, one thing that we stress is to be relentless to finish this year. Even though we did have that success last year, we still didn’t do as much as we wanted to and we want to make sure that guys understand that we didn’t do enough. We want to have it all this year.

6. Is there any one game you are looking forward to this upcoming season?

Not in particular. I tend to focus mostly on MAC games, but our non-conference games are still big games also, especially toward our overall record and getting to a bowl game, which is also a goal for the team. But I don’t think I have one game in particular that I am looking forward to.

7. Last year, you and Jamey Richard became the first-ever All-MAC offensive linemen at UB, what does that mean to you?

It means a lot. That is usually a player’s personal goal every year, to be an All-MAC selection, and to be the first ones, that is just an honor.

8. Do you have a pre-game routine and if so, what is it?

Usually I am kind of laid back and to myself, I have my iPpod on, get taped up, get my half pads on and come out and throw the ball around a little bit with Matt Bacoulis, just relaxing a little bit. Then I go back in and get suited up for pre-game.

9. What do you like to do in your free time?

Anything outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, any of that kind of stuff.

10. What has been your favorite moment so far as a student-athlete at UB?

Definitely being co-MAC East champs last year.
